Early Career Lawyers Session: AFFIDAVITS - Preparation of Affidavits and the Presentation of Evidence
How to effectively draft an Affidavit from scratch which is both compliant with the relevant rules of court and effective in presenting evidence in a manner which is persuasive and useful to your client. The session will cover preparation before your first meeting with a client, obtaining instructions, assessing relevance, sifting out superfluous material, drafting concisely, settling, dealing with client insistence about the inclusion of certain material, choosing exhibits and annexures.
Joint Session:
PARENTING - The scourge of family violence and how best to deal with it; A range of perspectives
Practitioners often find themselves at the coal face of Australia's epidemic of family violence, appearing for both the alleged perpertrators and the alleged victims in the Family Law system. How do we best deal with it? How can we improve the outcomes for families involved? What should we be doing differently?
In this free-flowing panel discussion, we will hear a diverse range of perspectives—from a judge, senior counsel, a solicitor, and a clinical psychologist—each bringing a wealth of collective experience to the conversation.
